Sagres is a Portuguese brewery that makes a unique chocolate stout called the Preta Chocolate. Since they didn’t have the cash necessary for a TV campaign, and didn’t have a lot of printed materials to promote with, they challenged their digital agency to find a new way to generate buzz about the beer. So what did they create?
A website made of chocolate:
The site was so unique that blogs couldn’t help but write about it, and the resulting buzz on Twitter and Facebook helped to spread the word to potential customers far and wide. To take the idea even further, customers were even able to order a limited edition six-pack that included a piece of the actual chocolate used to make the site.
As a promotion tactic, a chocolate website is a very smart idea, and I’m sure they attracted many customers that would otherwise have never heard of, or tried their beer. Time will tell if the beer itself lives up to the hype, but for now, they’ve set the bar pretty high for what a brewery can do with a beer and a dream.
