We covered the White House’s home brew activities a while ago, but one enterprising home brewer decided to take things to the next level, and use the White House’s online petition site We The People to ask for the recipe, which can be requested through the Freedom of Information Act.
In response, the White House not only published their recipe for the White House Honey Brown Ale and the White House Honey Porter, but they made a video to give you a behind the scenes look at the brewing process:
According to research done by the President’s staff, this is the first time beer has been brewed on the White House premises. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon, and Thomas Jefferson made wine, but now beer has its time to shine.
The recipe calls for honey tapped from the first ever bee-hive on the South Lawn of the White House, so it’s going to be tough to make an exact duplicate, but everything else seems pretty straight forward, so it shouldn’t be tough to make a beer that’s nearly identical to one brewed by the President.
